Sleep Easy: Kingston

06 December 2011
On Friday 2nd December, staff and volunteers from YMCA London South West and Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness, spent shifts sleeping in a Perspex box filled with cardboard, newspaper and a sleeping bag, outside the Bentalls Centre in Kingston Town Centre. While they did, other staff were charged with handing out publicity material for this year’s YMCA Sleep Easy.

YMCA Sleep Easy is a national YMCA fundraising event; raising money for local YMCA’s work with the homelessness. Members of the public raise money by spending a night ‘sleeping rough so others don’t have to’.

YMCA London South West are running two simultaneous events on January 28th 2012, in Kingston and Wimbledon. It’ll be the third year in a row the event has taken place in Kingston and will again be run in partnership with Kingston Action Churches on Homlessness. The event last year raised over £20,000.

Sleep Easy in Kingston will take place in the Memorial Gardens, starting at 7pm and finishing at 6am on the Sunday morning. There will be entertainment throughout the night, including a shelter building competition.
