Why I'm Taking Part In Sleep Easy
16 January 2012
At previous Sleep Easy events, we’ve had a wide range of people take part. Local councillors, children as young as 10, church groups, youth groups, hospital staff, scouts, reporters and a few YMCA LSW residents too.
Looking to join the list this year is Joanne Budd, a resident at YMCA Surbiton. She has been homeless since 2006, following a violent relationship and troubles with alcohol. Having st...

Sleep Easy: Kingston
06 December 2011
On Friday 2nd December, staff and volunteers from YMCA London South West and Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness, spent shifts sleeping in a Perspex box filled with cardboard, newspaper and a sleeping bag, outside the Bentalls Centre in Kingston Town Centre. While they did, other staff were charged with handing out publicity material for this year’s YMCA Sleep Easy.
YMCA Sleep Easy is a nati...

Junior Leaders Celebrate Another Successful Year
19 September 2011
The start of September is not usually a time of celebration for most teenagers. It signals the end of the school holidays and a return to early mornings and homework. But on Wednesday 9th September at YMCA Hawker Centre, 13 young people had the chance to reflect and celebrate a constructive summer at the Junior Leaders Celebration Evening. In front of family and friends, the young people were pres...

The Junior Leadership Scheme Is Back!
25 July 2011
With the summer holidays just around the corner, now’s the time when teenagers start to plan for those six weeks of no school. For those aged 13 to 15, one option that might appeal is the Junior Leadership Scheme, which provides the opportunity to work at one of YMCA LSW’s children’s summer camps. On the free two week programme, participants work with children aged 4 to 11 with the scheme designed...
