Door to Door Salesman
Caroline Cronin 09 February 2012
We have been informed that an individual has been selling cleaning products door-to-door in the Berrylands area claiming to be raising money for YMCA Surbiton. We would like to make clear that this is not the case and this man does not represent YMCA Surbiton on any level. We’ve been told the salesman is offering products carrying the YMCA logo and claiming that for every £10 of goods purchased...

Merton Winter Night Shelter: My Visit
Ben Mole 09 February 2012
The first Merton Winter Night Shelter came to an end this week after 32 nights of providing a warm meal and a safe space for homeless people in the Borough. It has been a huge success. The shelter, which can accommodate up to 12 people each night, has been full nearly every evening, which has really highlighted the need in Wimbledon.
I visited St Mary’s Church in the last week of the scheme, 29 ...

Ben Mole 03 February 2012
All Y+ Fitness gyms have entered the Member's Choice Health Club Awards. Winners are selected purely on the feedback from members; so we’re keen for you to tell the Awards scheme how we are doing. Plus, if you complete the questionnaire you could win £1000 of sports / leisure equipment.

Sleep Easy 2012 - A Great Success
Ben Mole 30 January 2012
It’s a strange feeling waking up from a light sleep, in multiple layers, a thick sleeping bag and a cardboard box. It’s a strange feeling being that exposed to the cold 5am morning air and sun. But it’s a nice, comforting feeling knowing that a warm bed is waiting for you. Sadly, some can’t share that comfort.
On Saturday 28th January, over 140 people across Kingston and Wimbledon all ‘slept r...

Joanne Budd: Why I'm Taking Part In Sleep Easy
Ben Mole 13 January 2012
One of the many people already signed up to take part in Sleep Easy this year is Joanne Budd; one of our residents at YMCA Surbiton. Having spent the best part of 6 years homeless, Joanne is keen to raise awareness of the issue that she feels is worse than people realise and believes events like this can help do just that.
This is Joanne’s story:
My BackgroundI was in a violent relationship fo...

The Extra Motivation You Need! If like most people you’ve gained a few pounds this Christmas, then perhaps one of your New Year resolutions could be to lose them.
The Resolution Challenge may be just the motivation you need.
In teams of three, the challenge is to collectively lose weight safely and effectively over a 12 week period. Each team will be assigned a Y+Fitness Personal Trainer, who...

Battle of the Bands 2011
Ben Mole 25 October 2011
Music Room’s Battle of the Bands 2011 certainly lived up to its name, with URAH.State narrowly pipping the rest to be crowned winners. The three lads, who bought along a massive following, won a day’s recording in the Music Room Studio. Chris Born & The Highwaymen finished second and were awarded a £50 music voucher for Broadway Music (the event sponsors), while the interestingly attired Tearawa...
