Across our centres throughout the year, we take part or become the venue for different community fitness projects, groups and initiatives.
Amongst other programmes, in the recent past we have worked with the MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition...Do it!) programme to deliver programmes for 7 to 13 year olds whose weight is above a healthy range for their age and height. We’ve worked with the Weight Management Centre and the NHS to deliver Alive ‘N’ Kicking, a weight management programme for the whole family and we’ve worked with PRO-ACTIVE South London, taking part in the Love2 Sport and Activity Festival, where free classes are run to encourage women to get active.
Projects On The Go
Currently, we are working with NHS Kingston to deliver the Change4Life Programme in Kingston, which consists of the Walk4Life and Bike4Life projects. Walk4Life offers guided walks in locations across the Borough, designed to allow anyone to participate whether it's your first time, or you're a regular walker. Bike4Life is a weekly led cycle ride up the River Thames. For more information, please contact the YMCA Change4Life Coordinator, Nathan Issom.
YMCA Hawker Centre is also the meeting place for Kingston’s Junior Cycle Club, where youngsters aged 9 to 16 can test their cycling skills with off road, obstacle courses and time trials. To find out more, please email or call 020 8296 9747.
