2 December 2015

Emergency food for local people in crisis will soon be available for collection from YMCA White House in Hampton (45 The Avenue, TW12 3RN). This is the fourth foodbank distribution point to open in the borough of Richmond upon Thames.

On Friday 11 December at 1pm, Dr Tania Mathias MP will be officially opening the new foodbank at YMCA White House.

Dr Mathias will be arriving at Hampton Square, next to YMCA White House, at 12 noon, where she will have an opportunity to meet the new foodbank volunteers and to find out more about this Richmond foodbank satellite site. In addition, the foodbank will be holding a food collection at the Sainsbury’s in Hampton Square from 11 to 1pm.

From 15 December 2015, the foodbank will be open on Tuesdays 9.30am–12.30pm and Wednesdays 2–5pm for collection. Families in need can contact local agencies and services such as the police, local schools and churches, their GP, the scouts and others to access vouchers for the foodbank.

People who would like to donate items can do so at YMCA White House during the opening hours from 9am–4pm every day or at connected donation sites which include Hampton Pool, St Mary’s School, All Saints Church and other local churches.

If you wish to donate food items please ensure these are non-perishable and will support a balanced and nutritional diet.

Tracy Moulds, Project Manager at YMCA London South West, said:

This is a fantastic opportunity for us to meet people at their point of need and provide support to people in crisis. We are proud to be working with the local churches to deliver this scheme in Hampton.

“We are so grateful to everyone who has already been in touch about volunteering; however we can always use more, so if people are interested in supporting us then please just get in touch. We are especially looking for people who are sympathetic and good listeners who could coordinate the collections and signpost people to other support services in the area.

All volunteers will be given training and are also encouraged to spend some time at the Richmond foodbank at the Vineyard Community Centre to see how the foodbank is run and find out whether this is for them.

To sign up as a volunteer or to find out more about how you can support the foodbank at YMCA White House, please email foodbank@ymcalsw.org or call 020 8783 3380.
