Walks

Our fortnightly walks start from YMCA White House, leaving promptly at 10am and returning mid-afternoon. They are free of charge and you will need to pay for your own expenses, such as transport and refreshments.

Richmond Park & Isabella Plantation     Thu 21 Sept 

A pleasant climb through part of Richmond Park before a stroll round the lush Isabella Plantation. We’ll then descend into the river valley to YMCA Hawker for lunch together. After lunch there’s a walk into Kingston through Canbury Gardens before catching the bus home.

Thames upstream from Hampton Court     Thu 5 Oct

We take the 111 to Hampton Court. Then we have a gentle (and sometimes muddy) walk along the Thames upstream. We walk until lunchtime at the riverside pub, The Weir. And then, after lunch there’s a bit more walking to the road before we catch the 461 to Hampton Court, and then the 111 home.

Around Bushy Park     Thu 19 Oct 

A pleasant walk to and around Bushy Park. We stop for a coffee at the Pheasantry cafe, then follow through the Woodland Gardens down to the Thames near The Bell. We then catch the 111 home. On our return to the White House you’re welcome to come into the cafe for a late lunch together.

Crane Valley    Thu 2 Nov 

A gentle walk through the Crane Valley Park towards Twickenham and back. We see the old shot tower and take a small detour into a nature reserve on an island in the River Crane. There’s a toilet and cafe stop half way before we return along the other bank of the river. The 111 bus takes you to the start, which is also the finish. On our return to the White House you’re welcome to come into the cafe for a late lunch together.

Dysart to Kingston along the Thames    Thu 16 Nov

We take the 111, then the 65 to The Dysart, and join the Thames Path near Richmond. We walk upstream past Marble Hill House, Ham House, Eel Pie Island and Teddington Lock to YMCA Hawker where we stop for lunch. Then there’s a gentle stroll into Kingston to catch the 111 home.

Twickenham to Richmond and back     Thu 30 Nov 

A level walk along the Thames from Twickenham to Richmond with views of Richmond Hill and the Star & Garter. Then a stop for coffee under Richmond Bridge, and back along the other bank and over the ferry to where we started. We’ll use the R70 for both journeys, and drop into the White House for lunch after.

Hampton Court to Kingston and back      Thu 14 Dec 

A pleasant walk from Hampton Court to Kingston and back. On the way, we stroll upstream along the river, and come back through Home Park. There’s a toilet and cafe stop half way in Kingston. The 111 bus takes you to the start, which is also the finish. On our return to the White House you’re welcome to come into the cafe for a late lunch together.

An annual senior social membership fee of £25 is required to be eligible for the discounted members rate.

For seniors, a Senior Social Membership costs £25 a year and as well as the fitness class discount, offers a 15% discount on community trips and activities and on food and drink in the cafe (excluding pre-packaged items).
