The YMCA Inclusive Lives Project is an exciting project across Kingston, Richmond and Merton that aims to:
- Increase supportive art, dance and exercise activities for all ability and mobility levels
- Provide support, education and employment opportunities for disabled people and those with a mental illness
- Celebrate and build awareness of living with a disability in the community
The YMCA Inclusive Lives project is funded by a Big Lottery Grant of approximately £319,000 over three years, and will be delivered by YMCA London South West in partnership with local authorities and charities.
We have a gardening group, classes and activities and community support services to offer as the core of our programme.
Love being outdoors, gardening and being creative? Our Blossoming Y project encourages you to get involved with other people in the community to create a sensory garden and breathe life into a disused plot of land at our YMCA White House site.

Live Well, Be Well
This class encourages people to think about the food they eat, and the way they keep fit. There is nutritional advice to get you thinking about what you’re putting in your shopping basket, such as how to check food labels, understanding the balance between carbs, sugar, fats, dairy, protein, vitamins in your diet as well as looking at healthy food swaps. The nutrition session is followed by a gentle exercise class which is led by an instructor; some of it seated, some standing with the aid of exercise bands and weights to help you get the most from the movements – all set to great music you will love. It’s open to all, locations and days vary.
Life Skills & Employment courses
If you want to learn how to handle interviews, how to improve your CV or build up your confidence with new people in work settings, then our Life Skills and Employment course is for you. Over six weeks you will take part in different exercises and activities which boost your confidence, teach you about team building, improve your interview and social skills, and teach you about communication and health & wellbeing. The course provides a career advisor as well as an opportunity to apply for a further education course related to your employment goals. Please contact us for more information about our next course.
We also provide services to support people with additional needs such as team motivation and a travelling instructor.
Team Motivation is a service for 16+ people living with a disability or mental illness who need a little help getting active and involved in their local area.
- Do you feel anxious about starting something new?
- Don’t want to go alone?
- Don’t know how to get somewhere?
- Do you feel nervous about meeting new people?
- Don’t know where to start?
Sign up to Team Motivation using the form below and we will link you up with a friendly Team Motivation buddy to help you start a new activity in your area.
Who will buddy with me?
After talking to you and your family, we will buddy you up with a Team Motivator (TM) who shares similar interests and likes similar activities. Our TM are trained volunteers who are friendly, encouraging, open minded and reliable. We will set up a first meeting with you, the Team Motivator, the YMCA LSW Inclusive Lives Co-ordinator and your family or carer. This is a great chance to meet and see if they are a good match.
Your Team Motivator will show you what activities are on in the area, enjoy each others company, provide support on public transport and try new activities with you.
The YMCA Travelling instructor service is a way of getting people in the community, in care home or day centres to try new things and get active. We know how hard it is to make travel arrangements for groups of people or even to encourage people to try something new in a new environment so we want to help! YMCA London South West can bring an inclusive, qualified and enthusiastic instructor to you FREE of charge on a day and time that suits you and the participants.
