Housing Officer

Based at: Based at YMCA Surbiton
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week (Worked on a rota basis, including occasional evenings and weekends)
Annual Salary: £23,006.00 per annum
Closing date: Midday, Monday 22 May 2017

We are seeking Housing Officer to work within the Accommodation Department at YMCA Surbiton. You will be responsible for overseeing lettings, interviews and inductions for non-supported residents, rent collection (personal, Housing Benefit and ledger), and dealing with licencee compliance and anti-social issues for all residents. You will work closely with the Support Brokers and other Housing Officer at YMCA Surbiton, to deliver a high quality housing service. You will also work closely with the Benefits Advice Worker to ensure all residents are in receipt of appropriate benefits. You will be responsible for liaising with Housing Benefit departments and YMCA LSW’s Finance Department to ensure income is maximised in the Accommodation Department.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of problems facing homeless people and homelessness issues; an understanding of confidentiality in a support setting; an understanding of the benefits system; sound experience of dealing with Housing Benefit and other social security benefits; and experience of recording, monitoring and report writing. It is essential for candidates to be able to deal with anti-social behaviour and effectively de-escalate challenging situations; have the ability to advocate, negotiate and mediate on behalf of residents; to be able to produce reports, collate statistics, and present work analytically. Experience of handling housing referrals and working directly with supported residents would be beneficial to applicants.  This role is subject to safeguarding checks including a DBS check in line with YMCA LSW procedures.
