Every summer the Junior Leaders scheme gives young people aged 13 to 15 the chance to get some valuable work experience at our children’s holiday day camps. For two weeks, they work alongside our staff team planning and running activities for children aged four to 11.
The scheme is designed to develop their leadership skills and child care experience. They also receive training on many aspects of playwork including; child protection, safe play-practice, health & safety and programme planning.
But just as importantly, the two weeks is great fun, as you can see from this video diary:
Working partnershipThe scheme has been running since 2002 in partnership with the Royal Borough of Kingston’s Out of School Development Team and is usually based at YMCA Hawker Centre. Funding from the local Borough and monies raised via fundraising events allows places to be offered for free.
