Magic Garden, Wisdom Well and Elvis Tribute at Care Home Garden Competition

August 27, 2014

After weeks of hard work and preparation from staff and residents, the results were in for the 2014 Garden Competition at Langdown Care Home in West Molesley. Langdown House No. 4 just managed to scoop the prize with their ‘Magical Fairy Garden’.

Each home had been given the challenge to turn their rather plain gardens into beautiful works of art. Each house took this on board and came up with some amazing results.

Elvis Tribute and Royal Display

In one of theCare home story tree houses the designs were based on resident’s personal reflections of themselves. John, a resident in House 3 who is a big Elvis fan, decided to make his own special tribute to the King! Another resident, Kathy, is a massive royal fan, so a royal display of colour and importance was also made.

A Magic Garden

The winners from House 4 had developed their own Magic Garden. A walk around the garden took you to different magical areas, including a  ‘friendship tree’- for which it was said that every time you make a friend, fairies add a beautiful precious stone  to it and that the friendship tree grows bigger and shines brighter.

In another part of the Magic Garden lay the ‘Wisdom Well’, where one could hold one’s index finger and whisper a question one seeks the answer to. Then you have to wait patiently until the Magic Owl brings you the answer whilst you sleep.

A great event

Zoe Sargent, Interim Head of Services, and Angela Garett, Chief Operations Officer, said:

Massive thanks to all the staff for their hard work in making this a very special occasion. All the houses’ gardens were truly a reflection of uniqueness, creativity and imagination and each house received a YMCA plaque to hang in their garden. The winning house also received some money to contribute to their gardens upkeep”.
