Music Room is a gig venue, rehearsal room and recording studio at the YMCA John Innes Youth Centre in Wimbledon. Here we run weekly workshops afterschool on a Wednesday from 4pm to 6pm, with an emphasis on ‘having a go’. Anyone can try a new instrument, attempt a bit of DJing or just hang out and relax after school. On a Monday, from 4pm to 6pm, the recording / rehearsal studio is open, offering bands and performers aged 11 to 18 discounted prices.
Gig NightsMusic Room also hosts monthly gigs for 11 to 18 year olds. These are gigs run for young people, by young people. With different monthly themes and formats, the gigs range from intimate acoustic sets in the lounge, to head-banging rock gigs in the 150 person capacity sports hall. Any bands or performers can perform, no matter what genre. And if you want to be involved back stage or front of house, we’re always looking for people to help with putting together the lineup, stage management or sound and lighting. The majority of these roles are for under 18’s, giving you great experience for your CV’s and, of course, free entry to the gigs!
Live LoungeOn the last Thursday of every month, Live Lounge in Kingston is a great place to chill out and listen to some live music, all for free. The late night café opens from 7.30pm at the Basement, giving centre stage to any performers aged 12 to 19 who’d like to play a set.
