Excursions, walks, meet ups and more…
Our fortnightly walks are FREE and start from YMCA Surbiton, leaving promptly at 10am and returning mid-afternoon.
Wednesday 5 April: Spring on the Ridgeway
Enjoy a bracing walk, with good long stretches! We’ll take the bus to the Ridgeway and make our way over Fetcham Down to the pretty hamlet of Westhumble, north of Dorking. All along the way we’ll be keeping our eyes out for the signs that spring is really here. A delicious lunch at Westhumble, before we catch the bus home. [About 4 miles, some inclines and may be muddy.]
Wednesday 19 April: Architectural gem and burning masterpiece
Make the most of two very different free exhibitions in two very different venues in the vicinity of the Embankment and St Paul’s. We’ll take the train to Waterloo, and we’ll relax over lunch before returning home. [About 3.5 miles, flat and paved.]
Wednesday 3 May:Discovering St Marylebone
Take an opportunity to walk through this atmospheric part of London, steeped in history. Travel by train and underground to investigate what lies behind the busy thoroughfares and quiet squares of this infamous area of central London. [About 4 miles, flat and paved.]
Wednesday 17 May: A walk in the park
This is a walk guaranteed to take your breath away, as we head to Isabella Plantation to admire the stunning rhododendrons and camelias. Bring your camera! From Ham Common we walk through Ham Gate into Richmond Park and on to Isabella Plantation. Then we wander on to enjoy lunch at Pembroke Lodge before making our way down to the bus home. [About 4 miles, some inclines and possibly muddy in parts.]
Wednesday 7 June: Celebrating transport in London
By special request, we repeat this fantastic outing which includes travel by train, bus, DLR, cable car (£3.30 with Freedom Pass) and river boat (£3.25 with Freedom Pass). We’ll enjoy a relaxed lunch at the O2. [About 2 miles, flat and paved.]
Wednesday 21 June: Wandle Trail
Enjoy the history and the stunning nature of this typical chalk stream – which goes unnoticed as industrial London bustles by. From Wimbledon station we catch the tram to Wandle Park where we pick up the start of the trail. We follow it through Beddington Park and on to Morden Hall Park where we can enjoy a light lunch before taking the tram and train home. [About 4.5miles, flat and mostly paved.]
Although free, personal expenses, such as transport and refreshments are for you to pay. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are in good enough health to participate in these walks.

Thursday 23 March: Capel Manor Gardens
First established in the late 13th century, the beautiful gardens stretch over 30 acres. They surround a picturesque Georgian Manor House and Victorian Stables. There is so much to enjoy over the day including but not limited to a Japanese garden, The Queen Mother’s garden, Sunflower Street, Le Jardin De Vincent, Growing Together in Faith garden, Koi Pond and Italianate Maze. For a break from exploring you can enjoy hot and cold food and drink in the Terrace restaurant or peruse the Hessayon visitor centre and gift shop. Bring your best walking shoes to make the most of exploring.

Thursday 20 April: Tonbridge Castle
The castle is a twin-towered gatehouse which took around 30 years to build and was completed in 1260. Set in the beautiful Tonbridge and Malling Borough of Kent, the castle has great views – and as you wander around you can see and hear about a vibrant history from over 700 years ago. It’s only a short walk from Tonbridge High Street which runs through the centre of this pretty market town, if you wanted to take the opportunity to explore further.

Thursday 18 May: Loseley House and gardens
This beautiful house has been in the More-Molyneux family for over 500 years. Sir Christopher More, the original purchaser of the land was Sheriff of Surrey and Sussex during the reign of Henry VII and is said to have been a man of considerable influence and power. His son, Sir William Moore, who is a direct ancestor of the current owners, was the one who eventually drove the main building of the house. As you wander the house and the grounds you will be intrigued not only by the architecture but also by the compelling family history.

Thursday 22 June: Brighton
Join us on our annual day trip to Brighton to enjoy the wonderful coast. Whether you’d like to stick with us or explore on your own, this quintessential English beach town has much to offer. With boutique shops along The Lanes and iconic attractions there’s a lot to explore. You could enjoy some traditional fish and chips, and take a walk along the pier or experience the new British Airways i360 Centre. This is always a popular trip so make sure that you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
On the last Friday of every month we get together to enjoy a traditional two-course meal, entertainment, a raffle and some fun and friendship. All for just £8 a head.

Every Monday join us for coffee and games between 10am–12 noon at Surbiton Café with Nicky or at our ‘Teapot’ event every Wednesday with Joyce between 2.30pm–4pm. Enjoy each other’s company and catch up on the week’s events. Plus, every Tuesday, 2.30-4.00pm you can also enjoy Freedom Tango, a gentle walking tango with a mixture of dance and socialising. (£5.40/£4.90). No partner required.

Senior Social Membership
The Senior Social Membership costs £25 a year and as well as the fitness class discount, includes a 15% discount on senior trips and activities and on food and drink in the cafe at YMCA Hawker (excluding pre-packaged items).
An Active Kingston Card is available to anyone aged over 60 and living in the Kingston Borough. It entitles you to discounted use of leisure Centres in the Borough during certain hours. YMCA Hawker is an issuing Centre.
