Throughout every department of YMCA London South West, we take an active, tailored approach to volunteering.
When people offer their time, we sit down with each individual to establish what they like doing, what they’re good at and who they want to help.
People volunteer with YMCA London South West for many reasons. Perhaps they are between jobs and want to keep busy while they look for another, perhaps they want to add some valuable work experience to their CV or perhaps they simply have some spare time and want to help others.
Some come to us with very little idea of how diverse we are, however, we make sure that all volunteers end up in a role that absolutely fits them.
The feedback our volunteers give speaks for itself, really: Purpose, personal fulfilment, experience, sense of giving, skills development, training, new friends, learning, understanding and giving back to the community are some of the things volunteers get back from offering a some of their time and expertise.
Whatever the reason, our volunteers are part of a valued team who work across most of our departments. Volunteer roles include:
- Gym Instructors
- Cafe Assistants
- Youth Workers
- Play Workers
The above list isn’t exclusive – if you have skills or experience in other fields and would like to volunteer, we will find a suitable option for you.
Volunteers receive induction training and are required to undergo an enhanced DBS check. Travel expenses are reimbursed and meals are provided while on duty. After a qualifying period and depending on hours worked, volunteers may also use the gym and Hampton Pool free of charge.
“Without volunteers, we couldn’t be the organisation that we are. So first and foremost if you are a volunteer or thinking of becoming one, we want to say thank you” – Helen Brett, ex-volunteer and now Director of Business Strategy.
