funders giving Tuesday

28 November 2017

As everyone gears up for #givingTuesday, we want to take the opportunity to say a big heartfelt thank you to all of our funders who make our charitable work possible.

In East London at YMCA Walthamstow the funders Big Lottery and BBC Children in Need have given us grants which have meant we can provide youth activities, from street-based youth work to a sexual health service.

Motivate East have been funders for Disability Snooker, which is a new initiative to promote health and friendship. It’s been a great success every Wednesday, with participants from Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Haringey, Essex and Greenwich.

Across all of our sites in South West, South and East London we have been supported in our youth work by the Jack Petchey Foundation. Young people who are involved in our youth clubs or who are residents with us are eligible for the Achievement Award Scheme, with a prize of £250. We nominate three young people per year for an award. Recent examples of award winners include a young man who helped set up a music studio and a young woman who helped set up the Open Mic night at Wimbledon and performed, too.

In South West London, our Inclusive Lives project has been funded by the Big Lottery so that we can provide art, dance and exercise for people with a disability and a mental illness across Kingston, Richmond and Merton. We also provide support with education and employment .

We have received generous grants from the Hampton Fuel Allotment Charity which enabled us to completely refurbish the café at YMCA White House in Hampton – a great way to ensure local people have the facilities they need.

At YMCA Hawker in north Kingston a grant from the Lawn Tennis Association meant we were able to resurface the tennis courts, ensuring children (and adults) had the best possible facilities on which to learn tennis and compete.

The Supporting People grant, awarded by the government has been a lifeline for our hostels in Surbiton and Wimbledon, helping to provide a good standard of care and accommodation for our residents.
